Yes, I am also tired of watching Death Note over and over. And Bleach to me is now, bleh. I need a good anime to watch. Any suggestions? And no, no Naruto or Dragon Ball Z. I was watching Gintama alot though... But I got bored.
I'm currently watching Blue Dragon (Japanese w\ Eng subs). It has Toriyama's usual dirty comedy, action-packed fight scenes, and enjoyable characters. As opposed to the video game, Toriyama has changed some of the characters' personalities a tad bit, for example: Marumaro isn't annoying like he was in the video game and is now very perverted, Jiro is more tougher, and Shu is rather hard-headed, but yet is no longer always saying "I won't give up" as he did in the game. While Zola, Kluke, Nene and his henchmen from the game are still the same as they were in the game.
There's some strong swearing in the show, but it doesn't happen often.. it ranges from "bastard" all the way up to "shit", not sure if the F word is in there since I'm only up to episode 5, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. The plot is noticeably very different from the game's plot, in which the characters meet each other in ways they obviously didn't in the game (example: In the game, Shu & Jiro are childhood friends, but in the anime they meet as strangers and become rivals). What has however caught my attention, is that the show features Nobuo Uematsu's music score from the game as the show's soundtrack... although I don't think the show has that wild Boss theme that played in the game all the time.
If you're a fan of Akira Toriyama's work, then I definitely recommend watching this, but only the Japanese dub... The English dub is really bad, for one thing it doesn't feature the same voice actors from the game, which, compared to the anime english dub, are alot better in my opinion, and from what I've seen it's been edited for the children audience (Cartoon Network). The show has already entered it's 2nd season, so it's still going with new episodes.
But, despite it's kiddish appearance, it carries a rather mature theme along with it due to Marumaro's perverse ways, much like Dragon Ball's dirty Master Roshi and his crazy perverted moments when around a 'cute' woman... plus the swearing. Other than that, the show is very funny, and has moments that cause me to laugh out loud. If you've played the game though, then it won't be hard to connect with some of the characters right away.
