In that case, consider anything rated 8 or above on this list as 'recommended':

hmm not into most of the animes that were previously posted but one i really like not mentioned and that i am rewatching because of how epic it is, is wolf's rain.
great story, if you have a heart it will make it cry from sadness to happiness. good action, good literature references and awesome and original idea. has some pretty popular voice actors, characters voices from cowboy bebop, digimon and street fighter alpha the anime are in it. i would say their real names but half the fun is figuring out for yourself. :]

Ya, Wolf's Rain reminded me of Trigun a lot. Another thing that reminds me of Trigun (but not nearly as good) is Rurouni Kenshin. I think you might like Trigun, but should avoid Rurouni Kenshin (it gets boring).

The only reason I started watching animes is because I moved to the middle of nowhere (with no car) and didn't know anyone during one summer. I had no TV, but I had Internet... so I watched anime like crazy. It got me hooked :P. I prefer comedic ones... I like laughing.

Currently watching:
One Piece
The Familiar of Zero

Just finished watching Gantz.
Cool anime, one thing that bothered me was there was too much talking in some action scenes.

Gantz was crap. "Too much talking" is a major understatement, and the show is childishly obsessed with sex and violence like a 15 year old school boy.

I'm currently watching Nodame Cantabile because a friend recommended it.
I'm on episode 13 and its really good. It makes me want to play the piano.

Most DVD players have pretty simple region hacks which are easy to find on the internet if you type in the model number. I got a few bargain anime DVDs from the States thanks to doing that.

I marathoned most of the episodes (about 200odd)and they seem to be able to draw you in and have that "One more" thing

The "thriller bark" story arc is quite good

Its better than Naruto and Bleach for keeping to its story
