Question about SSE and unlockable characters. <Possible Spoilers.>

Well I am going through SSE for the first time and I have just got into the fight againt Meta Knight and Lucario. Am I supposed to play as Meta Knight to unlock Lucario? But then if so will Sonic still challenge me after I am through with SSE?
Also after I am done and I am to get Wolf next do I have to go through the WHOLE thing again or do I just pick the level that I am supposed to go to?

Update I got Lucario, so nevermind on that.

Don't know the answer to your first question really, I did happen to use Meta Knight in the fight and beat Lucario, and he was unlocked, so I was lucky I did that if that is true lol. As for your second question, you just go back to the level Wolf is waiting in, no need to play all the way through again.

Alright that is a very good thing.... SSE is so long xD And I got Lucario, like I said. Do you know what level Wolf is waiting on?
