His sword reaches so far but he has no projectiles so you should try and keep the battle close combat.
His smash attacks left and right reach a decent distance and consider able damage.
When your in recovery coming back to the stage, as long as you dont have to grab the edge, your opponent will probably try and knock you back off, a lot of times the B down guard attack can be pretty effective at times like this. Especially when they are charging a smash attack, completely giving away what they are trying to do. Usually in this situation most characters would have to resort to the typical mid air shield but you surprise them with a counter. I try to mix it up for the most part (Shield, B down, a down slash etc.)
But the b-down is pretty handy in a lot situations, it basically blocks almost everything, charge shots, items etc... plus if you can anticipate when your opponent will attack you next it can be quite useful. I wouldn't abuse it though eventually they will catch on and you might give away a big opening if you use it and end up getting smashed.

People swear that if you hit with the tip of his sword it does more damage, my matches are too franctic to test this out and I'm too lazy to do it solo Also, he is more of a wait+see character imo, meaning he is better off counterstriking than going on the offensive (though all situations are different.) Hope this helps a bit.

Remember, Marth does the most damage when you hit opponents with the tip of his blade.
However, in Melee, Roy did more damage the closer he was to the opponent.

its a combo invented by a pro melee player. you get your opponent in the air then carry him off the edge using F airs and then spike them with a D air. its very hard to do though. any accidental tippered F air ruins your combo

Ken combo isnt that reliable anymore @_@ Barely any stun time to attacks so the opponent can Up B from the spike alot easier.
Short hop double F air is your friend =)

I think that if you can use marth's aerial game, you're set...I've always loved it, even though the sword is drastically shorter. You also need timing...with great timing that counter becomes heavenly.
Also, the Side B move was drastically improved...now it's great for trapping people and messing up their game. Shield Breaker, meanwhile, is awesome for fools who think Marth is far enough to be safe.
And if you use the Final Smashes, be careful with his final smash. It's awesome and all, but if you use it in a stage like Eldin Bridge and you miss, you're dead. Otherwise, OHKO.

The best thing to do with Marth is always keep close to your enemy, and do lots of short hops with f-airs.

this IS true. especially with the lack of an l cancel. i've seen it used though and its still good for racking up damage though its not as reliable for KOs anymore. partial ken combos into f smashes are still nice though

I was just thinking, have you ever tried the "ken combo" with R.O.B?

If I'm remembering his moves correctly, his fair hits them to the side, but also slightly up. Furthermore, they have to be completely underneath him for him to hit his dair, which also has a lot more lag than Marth's dair.
The verdict: Not practical

Using the edge of the blade. Combine throws with slashes to throw opponents off balance. Use Shield Breaker(NeutralB) if a person blocks to much.Marth was and is better than roy
