it isn't, Sakurai eliminated that myth about a day after Brawl came out. What we have now is what we'll have until the next installment, probably in another 6-7 years.
Mewtwo and Roy were cool, but really not worth it. Roy lacked popular appeal...he was in melee to promote his role as the latest FE lord, a role which Ike holds now. Also, Ike has been a main lord in two FE games by now, just like Marth I believe. So logically, they're the best two from FE. Also, Roy being a clone sort of killed him, and Ike is loads better, even if slower.
Mewtwo makes less sense, he was cool and unique. But sadly, he was broken and I guess they preferred to have fourth-gen pokemon Lucario with better versions of Mewtwo's moves than to have all pokemon characters be from the first-gen era. Add to that the fact that people would prefer to see a newcomer than another veteran...people like new.

Well, this was also the same guy who promised no clones (fine, if you want to argue, "semi-clones") and no lag. Also, the "disconnect and CPU takes over" thing is bugged.
There was a thread somewhere about this channel. It links to an article... but the search button hates me right now ._.

Well, of course he'd promise good things that in the end are not as great as envisioned. But if he said no channel it's because the game itself doesn't have that capacity to receive information from the network.
Plus, it's a very complicated idea...what if you fight someone who has a character you never downloaded? you wouldn't be able to fight that person at all. It would be a very awkward process.

Not really. It would probably be just like it is now. You fight a character on wifi that you haven't unlocked yet.
