Spiking Help
I was playing online the other day, and this one good kid, i don't know who, kept jumping down and spiking me like nothing . I have been trying to do that with marth, but i usually miss and fastfall to my death. If anyone has any tips for any character in general, I would appriceate it.

It depends on who you use. With Marth, you need great timing, because you have to hit them with the very edge of the sword when using aerial down A.
I suggest you do it at a high altitude, because with marth's if you jump down, it's hard to recover from the fast fall that happens the moment you press down.
As for other characters, it varies a lot. I think one of the best spikers in this game is Olimar, due to his crazy aerial game. Lucas is also good with great timing. My character is Wolf and I like to use, against my better judgement, the side B spike because it humiliates the opponent too much and it looks cool.

Yea, thats his coolest move, when he hits them at the very top, and they totally get pwnd.

It's all about the training mode. Learn which moves send your opponent downward. (You can see which moves here: http://super-smash-bros.wikia.com/wiki/Meteor_smash)
Just go into training, set the damage at 100%, then grab+throw them off the stage. They'll usually go far enough for you to land a nice spike or meteor smash. I recommend learning the toadstool jump timing too, because that's a great technique if used correctly.

As far as I know, Wolf has the best spike in the game... his Dair.
Well, that's according to SmashWiki.
As for Marth, you always want to keep your enemies at the tip of your blade.
*EDIT* Whoops, Wolf has the best METEOR SMASH.
Marth players use spikes often because they are spikes, not Meteor Smashes... Spike send people downward, and the guy can't recover until the hitlag wears off. Meteor Smashes can be canceled immediately, so you can still recover.

I disargee with you again Damascus! I think that Oliamr as the craziest spike game of all time! I mean first off is Down Air can spike at almost level if you hit with it, the only time it doesn't spike is if you hit it on the side but it sets up for anotehr spike. And my favorite spike is when someone is bad and edgeguarding and they just hand on the edge and waist there invisibility frames. Once those are gone and Im recovry with olimar i know im gonna die but before i die i got at a 30 degree angle below the edge and hit up b, This usualy makes them get spiked and they usualy always die first

Avoiding spikes:
1. Don't jump off the edge.
2. When returning to the stage, use your jumps and recovery move unexpectedly/awkwardly. Its better to leave yourself open after you've returned than to get spiked to your death.
3. If they mis-time their spike, try counter-attacking them if your character has a good enough recovery. Punishing is key.
4. Also if your character has a good recovery, you can air-dodge their spike. You could even air-dodge multiple times, if necessary.
Remember that you can jump-cancel Meteor smashes, so you don't have to worry about those. Avoiding spikes shouldn't be all that difficult for most characters. Just practice against a spike-whore and you'll eventually learn to dodge.

Basically, Brawl made it easier to send people down.

I'm certain that I've jump-cancelled a few meteor smashes in Brawl...Atleast I think so...

You can cancel some meteor smashes for sure, I played spiff a few times and he cancled like half of them with yoshi's jump but he still was too low to recover so i still got the kill

you can't cancel meteor smashes if they have freeze frames like ganon's d air. but you can if its a spike... which marth's is and therefore you can cancel it.
and on spiking with marth its easiest to do if you do it as you rise rather than fall. you don't die that way lol

Yo i just saw that Yoshi Spike Cancel post, and its not like that, its simply a Frame in which you cant be ¿¿Knockbacked?? , some characters like DK and Yoshi get "Armour" on the first frame of his Up B and second Jump respectively, so you cant spike them, as for TLink Spiking, i consider it too risky

on yoshi 'armor'
its known as super armor. its not just for the first frame... as this would be insignificant. there are frames at the beginning of his jump and some more at the height of it i've found. he can be hit in the middle i've come to find out.
super armor means your character is unflinching for those frames, you still take damage though.
and on toon link spiking
its very risky but if you can predict a character's jump you can do it. like most people automatically jump first before up bing towards the stage. so predict the jump and throw down the spike... really risky though especially on meta
