VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Vancouver Canucks announced today that they will unveil their new home and away sweaters to their fans and media on Wednesday, August 29th at General Motors Place.

Canucks fans are encouraged to join their favourite team for a tailgate party prior to the sweater launch at 12:30 pm. The tailgate party which begins at 11:30 am on the South Plaza will include free hot dogs provided by Grimm’s and Save-On-Foods, Coca-Cola beverages and Canucks prizing courtesy of McDonald’s and The Beat 94.5 FM Street Squad.

Canucks mascot FIN will be taking part in all of the activities and will be available for photos following the Sweater Launch on the South Plaza.

Tickets for the launch event are free and are only available online through Ticketmaster.ca, beginning at 10:00 am, today. Also, courtesy of Impark, parking in the General Motors Place underground parking lot is complimentary for the event. For further details on the Canucks Sweater Launch please visit Canucks.com. Should be a nice event. Seeing as I've gotten four tickets I plan on taking my brother and a couple of friends. Might have to show up a bit early as well considering it's going to be packed down there..

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks Senior Vice-President and General Manager Dave Nonis announced today that the Canucks have re-signed forward Trevor Linden to a new contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Linden, 37, is entering his 19th NHL season (16th with Vancouver) and holds the title for franchise records in a number of categories. Linden is the all-time franchise leader in games played (1081) and points (721), as well as the team’s franchise leader in playoff games played (118), playoff goals (34), playoff assists (61), and playoff points (95). On April 23, 2007 in Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarter-Final series against the Dallas Stars, Linden notched his 34th career playoff goal as a Canuck, tying Pavel Bure for the all-time franchise lead.

Last season, the 6’4”, 220 lbs. winger appeared in 80 games with the Canucks, recording 25 points (12-13-25) and 34 penalty minutes including a game-winning marker in the season opener. He also appeared in all 12 playoff games with Vancouver, tying for the team lead in scoring with seven points (2-5-7). Linden notched two game-winning goals in the post-season, including the winning marker in Game 7 against the Dallas Stars.

Over his NHL career, which includes tenure with the New York Islanders, the Washington Capitals, and the Montreal Canadiens in addition to Vancouver, Linden has played in 1323 career games recording 855 points (368-487-855) and 880 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 124 career NHL playoff games, registering 99 points (34-65-99) and 104 penalty minutes.

In addition to his work on the ice, Linden has had an equally large impact in the community off the ice. In 2003, Linden was appointed to the Order of British Columbia in recognition for service with the greatest distinction and excellence in a field of endeavour benefiting the people of the Province. Linden is also a recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

The Medicine Hat, Alberta-native was originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks second overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. In 1998, Linden was traded to the New York Islanders in exchange for Todd Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe and a third round draft pick (Jarkko Ruutu); in 2001 the Canucks re-acquired Linden along with a second round pick in 2002 from the Washington Capitals for a first round pick in the 2002 draft and a third round pick in the 2003 draft.

On www.NHL.com you can now pre order the new RBK Nhl jerseys for $114.99. Which to be honest is a good price considering most stores usually jack the prices up. Just found that interesting. Oh and apparently there's a Jersey sale as well with up to 40% off on certain jerseys.

this answers my question about "is every team getting a new jersey" and that answer is yes, if you notice when you shop for a jersey for a team who has not released its new Rbk Edge style jersey, it will say "no photo available" for the "new 2007 Rbk New Jersey Devils jersey" but if you look at say the Washington Capitals, the picture will be there of their new jerseys. so yupp. looks like everyones getting new jerseys for 2007

VANCOUVER - It's top secret.

The Vancouver Canucks will unveil their new jersey design Aug. 29, the first revamp since 1997, but because of iron-clad security surrounding the event and the fact suppliers, retailers and all other stakeholders have signed non-disclosure agreements to keep silent, we can't tell you what it looks like.

What we can tell you, though, is the following about the fifth incarnation of Canuck colours:

- In keeping with the "RBK Edge" uniforms, which will be worn by all 30 NHL teams this season, the jersey will have a slimmer look and are expected to have vertical trim instead of horizontal.

- According to a source in the apparel industry, the new look will retain the Free Willy logo, but with fewer colours and Vancouver spelled in an arc out over the top of it. The same source said the 'hockey-stick-in-rink logo' that is the Canucks' original and adorned the team's retro-jersey will be used as shoulder patches, but with some modifications.

- It's expected the main colours will be changed to the lighter blue and green of the aforementioned retro-jersey.

Of course none of this can be confirmed until the Canucks officially show their new look a week from Wednesday, but we did ask independent fashion designer Isabelle Dunlop for her thoughts on the confirmed and expected changes.

"The slimmer look is definitely better," said Dunlop, an admitted hockey fan. "It will give it a more modern look. These guys are fit, they're athletes, so show the product. There are a lot of girls who like to watch hockey."

She said vertical striping will give the jersey a further slimming look.

As for the speculated colour change, Dunlop gave it thumbs up.

"I have such a soft spot for the old colours, the navy and green - they're classic," she said. "Fantastic, they work really well. Navy is hitting the fashion world right now. That's brilliant."

Asked which Canuck player she might pick to model the uniform, she chose Trevor Linden, who actually hasn't re-signed with the Canucks yet - unless he secretly did so in the last couple of days - but you get the idea.

"Trevor Linden would be a good choice, he's nice and tall," she said. "I think he embodies the look you want."

Tim Silk, a professor of marketing at University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business, said there's always a danger in changing the look of a uniform that is already popular.

"I believe that currently there is a pretty high satisfaction level with the look," he said. "But I think it's pretty neat that when you go to a game you have so many different jerseys (worn by fans) in the arena. It gives you a great sense of history."

Silk said he hopes that the team keeps the orca whale logo.

"I know people love having the orca in the logo and the native design is really positive," he said. "It expresses the characteristics of the market it's in probably more than any other NHL jersey."

Of course, the emergence of a new design also leads to ramped up sales - because any true Canucks fan wants to have the latest colours to wear.

"There has been a ton of interest amongst the kids and a lot of women," said Danny Luongo (no relation to Canucks goaltender Roberto), owner and manager of Larry's Sports in North Vancouver. "There' is so much street talk, it's crazy. We do a lot of business in jerseys, especially at Christmas. We'll see a bump-up as a result of this."

Well I assume all Jersey's will be changed to the new style, just not everyone will have new logo's to go with it.
