    No, in order to finish the game? No, you don't need it. I only have 22. I guess that if you collect them all, the guy gives you a heart piece, i really don't know.

    he only gives you a bottle with fairy tears and money, you wont get any piece of heart from him, its really not necessary to get them all its just a side quest with uncool rewards.

    Rupees are so useless in this game. There are too many and not much stuff to spend it on. I really wish in the next Zelda game there's more use for it.
