I can see how Affirmative Action was necessary just as the historical segregation was ending, but now? I don't really think it should be implemented anymore...UNLESS it's blatantly obvious that employers/admissions reps are only granting members of their own race spots in their company/school.

Random side note, but I notice that immigrant-owned businesses are less likely to hire Caucasians than North American owned businesses are to hire visible minorities. This is especially evident in the Asian and Middle Eastern communities.
It's so much more civil when we agree.

    Agree.
Extremely tired of people yelling it out when they were declined of a job. It does absolutely nothing but cause more racial problems.

The Metropolitan Police Force (the force that operates around London) uses it. I have a mate who is attempting to become a police officer- however, due to the fact that he is neither black nor gay, he has to wait longer than everyone else.

    It's despicable.

    Wait...they prefer gay police?

Don't Ask Don't Tell doesn't apply in Britain at all?

Correct, we don't have the "don't ask, don't tell" policy here. The police and the military both allow openly gay people to join.

    Hmm, interesting.

Anyway, what would possibly make a black cop any better than a white one?

Clearly if we can elect a Black President, either affirmative action is much too powerful, or it's time to get rid of it. Either way. GET RID OF IT.

Absolutely nothing, of course. That's just affirmative action at work.

Yes, It's good in the way that the police and military in Britain allow for gay people to become part of their great services, but prioritizing them is silly.

as an asian american high school student, affirmative action seems pretty daunting in terms of college applications.

opportunities, educational or not, should be granted based solely on MERIT rather than on racial quotas.

its trying to balance out previous un justices with new un justices, but for a different player. So depending on what time scale you look at it can be seen as fair or unfair.
But to me its free money or an extra edge so I'll take it haha!
Brawny you're Asian, you don't like free money? I am half chinese, we love this kind of stuff haha.
