I heard of the improvements the games had each iteration, so seeing X/Y do away with many features such as contests and secret bases, etc... why?
... On that note, it's a bloody shame since BW are doubtless the best Pokemon games. inb4 genwunner attack
"Purity" of experience, perhaps? For me it felt XY was... simplified, might be the way t' put it. As such, I always felt XY was meant to be a nostalgiafest for the Genwunners in terms of gameplay and flow, bar the douchebag rival and species encountered. They did somethin' similar for BW1 by makin' it so you only encountered new species, emulating how it felt to play RBY for the first time: both species and region were shiny 'n new.
Or maybe t'was mere time constraints? I reckon that any such features would've been guaranteed to of gotten P.S.S. support in some way, so perhaps they didn't have the time to do all'a that and scrapped any such ideas.

And the Japanese version, which is worse.
