Breeding, "EV training", etc. to make a competitive team in the actual games takes hours upon hours of work. Quite a few people are content t' use a simulator where you can make the Pokemon perfect without huge amounts of work and get straight to the battlin'. Players who prefer the pride of breedin' and trainin' their whole teams are known to test the teams' viability on a simulator prior to breeding as well. Ain't no point puttin' a full day's work into a shitty team after all.
