How Region lock works

Can Any one tell me HOW region lock Works.
is there pal-1
pal-2
for the wii. or is it just NTSC and PAL.
i live in Australia and i want to import games from France (Europe). pleqse tell me how it works aswell.
( i have searches EVERYWHERE and theres no info on Europe to Australia import )

The nintendo Wii does support Regional Lockout, which is stated as follows
* Japan and Asia (NTSC-J).
* North America and NTSC territories.
* Europe, Australia and PAL/SECAM territories.

Since Europe and Australia are both PAL regions the games will be compatable.
The main differences between PAL and NTSC are that NTSC images have 525 lines at 60Hz and PAL has 625 lines at 50Hz

no, as france operates secam, not pal or pal/secam, somewhere else in europe, such as the UK.

but it says PAL on the games here in France

then you can buy them... and play them, but be carefull, some might say secam

Make *certain* that they are not Pal Secam! Pal secam displays in black and white on standard Pal sets
