    Sorry if this is a really stupid question but whats the difference between first and second party developers.

    first party is the company who made the hardware making games for it (ex: nintendo, who makes mario and what not)
    second party is developed by some outside developer but is published under the maker of the hardware (ex: who ever makes battalion wars or advance wars: dual strike)
    third party is an outside developer whos publisher is also outside of the hardware makers group (ex: rockstar with manhunt 2)

    Thanks. So is Metroid a second party title because Retro develop it and it is published by Nitendo.
