Could you be a little more vague? That was a little too specific.

Kidding. If you are talking about Mario Kart 64, you can use either the classic controller or a gamecube controller, I believe. If Double Dash, you have to use GC Controllers. What problem are you having?

There is a red sinc button under the flap under the disc drive. Open it up and and press that button, as you're doing that, get the wiimote and press that red button that is located in the compartment where the batteries are kept.

That should sinc the wiimote to the controller. Then you are going to need a classic controller attached to the wiimote to play. (Or you can get a gamecube controller)

when we try to play choose 2 player it asks us to use 2nd remote, but we can't get it to accept it

Shoot. I didn't even read Mario Kart 8. I just thought he meant 64 and the 8 was a misprint. Now looking back at it, he probably meant Mario Party 8
