So? As illustrated by the listed games, they're educational value only becomes apparent when the games are heavily modded for a specific purpose. Very few games have any educational merit in their inherent form. And even in the heavily modded forms, their usefulness is mild, at best. You (and the author) are making a GRAND LEAP in making the assertion that video games irreplacable, world-saving devices.

So what exactly are you learning from SMG, MP3, and SSBB?

SMG: The physics of gravity

MP3: To learn how to observe objects in their nature and figure out their purpose. Also how to get around obstructions(mental and physical)

SSBB: To be able to adapt to new scenarios(aka stratagys) and learn how to defeat your opponents.

Of course those are all for certain carraers (SMG scients MP3 Photographer SSBB Military Specialist)

i bet some day thay will make army robots that will have camra's on them so it looks like a fps and have the robots sent to war wile we sit at home and battle from have with ps3, xbox360 controolers and keybords and mice and battle just like in a fps game...untill a 8 year old comes along and calls you a noob and shoots ur camra off

also in half life 2 theres are loads of puzzles (beat hl2 hl2 ep1 and hl2 ep2)
