    Wii Homebrew

    Snes9xGx.wii 0.01b:

    Ever since the Twilight Hack, Wii homebrew has been developing at a breakneck pace. Case in point, homebrew developer unholyfire has announced the release of Snes9xGx.wii 0.01b. If you haven't figured out what it does based on the title, it's an emulator which allows users to run SNES games on their Wii.

    According to the developer, this application is running a modified version of the Snes9xGx 1.43 emulator. Of course, quite a number of changes were done to the program, so here's a list of the changes as taken from unholyfire's release thread:

    Changes from Snes9xGx 1.43:

    * Added Wii DVD detection capability (allows you to browse the DVD to fetch ROMS)
    * Changed "goto menu" function to button combo "L+R+X+Y" (to support SNES/GC adapters and/or homebrew controllers)

    Those who wish to compile Snes9xGx.wii 0.01b for themselves need the DevKitPro + DevKitPPC + LibOGC + FreeType2 environment to do so. If you're unfamiliar with this, feel free to follow our Source Link for more information on how to set it up.

    Be advised that the compiled version of this emulator does not come with any documentation. So unless you're absolutely sure about what you're doing, it might pay to check out the source link before running this to avoid any unwanted problems.

    tl;dr: Basically you can play SNES without the use of the Virtual Console

    Wii Linux Proof of Concept:

    Homebrew developer Albert "isobel" Herranz and his team has released a new proof-of-concept application, showing the Nintendo Wii being able to run the operating system Linux.

    This is a port of the GameCube-Linux project from the same team. According to isobel, this proves that viability of having GC-Linux distro contained in an ELF file.

    This runs in a unmodified Nintendo Wii console with the help of the Twilight hack v0.1-alpha2 loader. Before doing anything, be sure that you have the following in your possession:

    * A Nintendo Wii
    * A SD card
    * A SD card adapter for the Nintendo GameCube
    * (optional, recommended) a USB Gecko adapter

    Once you've obtained the following requisites, all you have to do is download the file which we hosted below. It contains a Readme.txt file which will provide you with instructions on how to install and use Wii-Linux Proof of Concept v0.1.

    but how would you be able to save your progress on a SNES game? I'm guessing you save on the SD card?

    ^ no, Wiifanboy has it on their frontpage right now that some of their readers have confirmed that this still works, though I don't know from first hand experience.

    No snesx works by taking like a freeze of your current game state or something and you resume there when you boot up again.
