Wii # and friend code

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but what is the difference between these? Which one do I give out to my friends? I'm just a little confused.

You give your Wii number if you want to add friends for your message board.
Friend codes come with online games and are shared in order to play online against others. Not all online games have them, but games like Battalion Wars 2 and Brawl have them.

and all games have different friend codes, share those w/ your friends that have the same game. dont forget to get there friend codes for that game too..

Friend codes are game specific and allow you to play with your friend. the Wii Number allows you to message them through the wii message board.

Basically everyone said it... Your Wii # allows you to add your friends, which in turn you can exchange messages, send each other Miis.

Friend Codes are game-specific and are used when you want to play someone in that specific game (ie give someone your SSBB Friend Code and add theirs within SSBB if you want to challenge them).
