Wii Usernames

I was just wondering if Wii usernames are available yet? Are you actually able to sign up for and somewhat use a username on the Wii as of right now?

I have looked through the forums and I am sure it is menmtioned somewhere, I am just striking out everywhere I look even off the forums. I have gotten mixed answers from almost everywhere but no Nintendo sources.

If anyone could answer that it would be great.

I am not 100% sure on what you mean by username?

The wii has a console nickname which you can change in the Wii Settings menu.

I am pretty sure I remember an interview with Reggie Fils Aime where he stated the Wii is a console for everyone and there would not be an xbox live style sign on menu. You just switch it on, add or choose a mii and use the console. However I think it was him who said the console was region free for wii games
