Developers sending new content over WiiConnect24

There's been a lot of talk about game developers extending a game's depth by sending new content over WiiConnect24 (ex: New dungeons for Zelda) but my question is... why would the developers want to? I'm not against the idea, but it doesnt really make sense for them to add stuff to the game when they've already made their profits when you initially bought the game. The idea would be really cool but it just doesn't make logical sense to me.

they actually do do it on xbox live, some content i pay for content and sometimes it is free. For exapmple you can by extra quests on oblivion or purchase armor for you horse to help it not die. Or on racing games they release new cars sometimes for free and sometimes for play or I have seen them give extra content for refering a friend to the game. Deffinatly helps make things have better lasting value
