You make so much sense lol. People does make it seems like nintendo has 100% kiddie games. Nintendo has a variety of different games. if you don't want to play the kiddie ones then dont buy them, buy the adult games and if you don't like those games you have no need to play that system anymore. That's why i hate the word kiddie because nintendo has games that are not kiddie. even if mario was in a game with an ak47, people would call it kiddie all because of what they heard.......... This was never an issue with the NES and SNES so why start now

Game consoles have matured since the NES and SNES, and the games have changed. The video game changed for ever in 1992/93 when Wolf 3D was released ; a new era of gaming had started.

Times have changed. "Kiddie" is now an issue whether you like it or not. Like I said before, for Wii to compete with PS3 and XBox in the long term, its going to have to lose this image:

    - adults won't buy the Wii if all there are is kiddy games such as barnyard and endless Mario games
    - 3rd party developers won't develop more mature games for the Wii if adults aren't buying the console , and that will mean less games.
    - Without enough 3rd party games, Wii will be yet another GC - i.e., a failure. How many failures can Nintendo handle before it gets out of the console hardware market.

Its a spiral that Nintendo has to get out of.

No console can ride upon 1st party games, alone. It needs 3rd party backing.

I'll reiterate: The Wii must be compelling to the range of gamers, casual, hardcore and kids.

If Nintendo has to rely on its own games Wii is doomed, and failed yet again.

As a rough sample, on these forums, how many people are saying they want more mature games? This is a fairly good indicator, and it shows that the Wii has a problem in this regard.

You, yourself may not like the word 'kiddie' and 'Wii' in the same sentence, but its reality, and its a problem.

3rd parties are either coming to PS3 and 360 or Wii so I don't think the statement is accurate however they do need to work on the 3rd party support even though they probably have the highest 1st party support 360 has the highest 2nd party and PS3 is a bit of a mix

Alot of you need to realise that the Wii is perfect for shooting games, and that's one of the main reasons people buy it. Everyone has different game preferences and they all need to be catered to so stop arguing.

Really this guy is right. There are people of ALL ages who play videogames and Nintendo realizes that. Thats why we have games like Barnyard or Meet the Robinsons, etc. Get OVER it. IF you don't like it then DO NO BUY THE GAME. Personally I would flove to have GTA on the Wii. And so would many others. Just like other people want to see thinking/strategy games like Big Brain Academy or arcade like games. Others want party games and still others want Sports games. There is HUGE demand for each genre and Nintendo is smart enough to make games for each of them.

To the original poster do you even know what you're talking about? What company has SOLEY relied on their own games to survive each generation? Thats plain stupid. Added to the fact that Konami, EA, Rockstar, and plenty of other developers are working on Wii titles as I type. So really I don't think that Nintendo is worrying about 3rd Party support right now.

GTA might be coming to the wii and if it does the sales will go through the roof ( only if the game is good - which it will be if it happens )

You and above quoter are correct.

The OP is living in the past. He / she obviously forgets why the GC failed - because of the exact question that is being asked.

I agree wholeheartedly that consoles need 3rd party support to be successful. I think the Wii has sparked interest in a lot of developers, so I'm sure that it will be much less of a problem this time around than with the Gamecube.

I think you (stewart01) are abusing the "kiddie" description. Mature and kiddie are only two extremes of the gaming spectrum... Nevertheless, the gamecube had a demographic much lower in age than the competition in the last generation of consoles, which makes the Wii demographic suspect. Many developers will be watching the next several months to see whether or not upcoming M games will sell before they decide to do their own M games for the Wii. Considering there is already so much anticipation for games like Sadness, No More Heroes, Manhunt 2, and Resident Evil: UC I see a much brighter future for mature games now than with the Gamecube.

your right This is why i hate the word kiddie. Everyone have different needs and wants of games. So i dont see why people are tripping out themselves as if nintendo only promotes kiddie games...This is why i don't agree with him when he doesn't count nintendo 1st games as real games.

Stewart you're just bias, i have nothing else to say to you because everytime you make a point you call a game like mario or baryard. Are they the only games on the shelf. do me a favor, go into a gaming store and tell me a list of all the wii games on the shelf, and lets see if all the games on the shelf are kiddie because the way you talk is like kiddie games are the only thing on the shelf for the wii. When your going to talk about a topic, be well rounded and not just focus on a straight line because that's not life. Nintendo is the only system really that has a variety of games for every age and every gamer. Yea and 3rd party games will not be an issue.......

my final thought is about something you said earlier...... how could 3rd party developers be scared to make games for the wii because their afraid the adult people won't buy it. WTF the only way to get the adults in to some of these games are to make adult or mature games. DuH!! 3rd party developers have the power to move this so called kiddie image you see. If they don't make games, then there will always the kiddie word for you to abuse

Guess I must be in the minority in that I like the "kiddy" games and I'm an adult. I'm looking forward to Mario, Zelda (just got my Wii), etc. And I even like a lot of the adult games as well (want to pick up Godfather).

Then again, I'm not a hardcore gamer - like to unwind for about an hour or so at night. The "kiddie" stuff fills that void quite well (loving Sonic) for me. I don't have to get majorly invested in it, can have fun and be entertained.

If all I wanted was FPS and "adult" games, I would have got a PS3. I like the VARIETY of the Wii. You can go from Kiddie to Adult decently now and I'm sure with the sales figures of the Wii more publishers will come in time. You can't ignore the #2 selling (total sales) next gen console for long.
