At Worlds End problem

well I just rented "At worlds end" and so far I can't do anything. I am stuck at the first level when the game just begins. I can't jump or do anything at all. My controller works fine. Is it me or is it the game. I have no instructions as I rented the game from Blockbuster. Any help would be appreciated.
