Nintendo decided not to have an Mario games out on launch because it's a marketing trick. People hear that there will be a few coming out in 2007 and immediately start to become interested in it and want to buy it. This will make more people crave the game for a longer wait, so more people buy it when it comes out. Either that, or they just decided not to have a Mario game out on launch for some reason.
