From what I remember, it isn't a microphone. Or even if it is able to sense audio, it would not be sophisticated enough to be used as a microphone.

And a microphone on the remote would NOT be an ideal location!
I made on article on this on WiiLoaded. I even contacted Nintendo about it for my research. I concluded that there is an Audio Translation chip in the remote but no input device i.e. Microphone.Originally Posted by dakuda

well thy are going to make some plug that has the same port as the ds head phones

They could just enable the use of any bluetooth headset (just like the PS3 does).
