If anyone else has this problem (and don't mind a bit of DIY), just open it up and check the rumble module (located just behind the trigger)

if you can only hear it if it's close to your head, it's probably ok. I can hear ringing from computers if I concentrate and put my head near them... (supersonic hearing!! XD)

seriously, if it's only ringing close to your head, just ignore it. I'd post about it if you start hearing it away from your head.

Actually, a lot of people can hear sounds at really high frequencies especially when they are younger. I would have sworn I heard the high humming of my DS charging before. :P

I hear TVs when they're on whether or not any sound is coming from them.

Otherwise I supposedly have normal hearing.
