help please - just bought a new racing wheel and it "blocks" part of the controller

Hi, bought my kids a racing steering wheel, but when the controller is in it, the pointer only works on the bottom half of hte screen as though part of the wheel itslef is "blocking out" some of the beam (whatever it's called) that sends communication between the controller and receiver. - any suggestions, besides heating up a knife to slice away some of the plastic off the wheel?

Well did you put the Wiiremote correctly into the wii wheel to begin with?
btw buying Wii wheels is a waste of money when you can just hold the wiiremote sideways and TAA-DAA you have yourself a "wii wheel"
