Earlier this year a Neo Geo rep said something about making their VC games online playable on the Wii. Prior to the Wii launching Nintendo invested some research into MAME and Kaillera.

Fast forward to now and you can see Nintendo was very serious about online gaming. If Nintendo wants to turn a game like Chrono Trigger into a 1 player game with 4 other people watching online(already possible with Zbattle.net), they can do that. If they want to save replays of games, they can do that. Anything is possible. Now we'll get a better idea what is in store next year. Nintendo's President Iwata said he wants to keep the momentum for the Wii at all costs.

Nintendo's not in touch as much as you may think.

Here's a recent quote from Eric Walter, Nintendo's Public Relations manager:
But the way that we think about friend codes is, when folks are online, and they want to play, they typically want to play with their friends. And so, they want to keep it to groups of people they know. We've seen, in the feedback we've gotten, that people don't mind the friend codes. They like them, because it keeps them playing with the friends that they do know, and it keeps their games "undisturbed," if you will.

Yea Nintendo is finaly going to understand how online should work
    Tip of the day:
A big mistake a lot of you make is that wiiware games will be free.

Wiiware is just the same like the virtual console. Its different in that it offers new games instead of old console games.

I can think of some easy games ( Like tetris and some other in that direction ) that can be free but the majority will cost money.

I agree Nic. Nintendo are finally stepping in the right direction in terms of online. SSBB seems to be their flag ship online title, let's hope it all runs smoothly.

i think the ideal would be to have a system code and no game codes. Similar to the 360, you can register friends to play online with them, but also you can play against random people..
So in other words, remove the requirement for game codes.
Friends codes are required to some extent, otherwise we would never be playing our friends.
