Can I connect to other Wii's abroad?

I am a Wii owner living in Japan, and I have a friend in the UK who has a Wii. Are we able to chat/interact/play games against each other via the internet given the fact we are in different countries?

yes, you will have to ensure the game supports online play, and you both each have to own a copy of that game.

I hope you have a blast!

Also some games are region specific because there would be too much lag if you play someone from another country.

For instance in Super Mario Strikers Charged I can't play anyone outside of the United States.
