Wired connection: what do i need to buy?

I have wired internet and I am interested in getting internet on my wii. I have done some research, but I can't plug an ethernet cable into my modem, as there is only one ethernet port and that is feeding internet into my p.c. Is there something i can buy that would split the one ethernet port into two, and enable me to get internet on both my wii and computer?
Thanks. Am looking forward to playing cod online.

You can use a router with which you connect the modem to the router using an ethernet cable and this will split the connection to allow for generally up to 4 wired connections and if you get a wireless one, you can also connect wirelessly. You connect whatever appliance through the router and it can connect wirelessly. Just make sure what type of broadband your have, cable, which is DSL routers (virgin media) or ADSL (BT, Sky etc).

What kind of wired connection do you have? In the past my ethernet cable ran from my computer downstairs where it was plugged into our NTL/Virgin setop box
    Is yours similar?.

By searching on google, I found that there are indeed ethernet splitters which you can buy.But I'm not sure if they can do what you want it to do.

I just found an example on the play.com website which has this VERY disappointing caveat written in the fine print

    http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/351646...cat:Networking

Cat5 RJ45 Ethernet Network Splitter Economiser Adaptor / Set Of 2

NB - You cannot share a broadband connection with this device. This will not split a port on an ethernet card, XBox or NTL Box. They are only for use with patch panels & faceplates. We do not guarantee compatibility on any product if not using a patch panel].
I think that you may need a router as the poster above stated.I'll see if I can find you an alternative using your existing setup ie the cables

Hope I was of some help

    Jonathan.

Ethernet ... splitter? Lol. What you are talking about is either a hub or a switch (or router if you need the extra functionality it has, but your modem might have that too). Hubs and switches perform the same function, but switches are better because they don't share bandwidth between the ports. Here is an example of a switch:

One of the problems with ethernet cables and wiis is that wiis have no port which will accept RJ45 Cables.Amazon are advertising a RJ 45 cable for use with the wii and as the reviews state they are useless on their own.

A wii needs a USB to RJ45 adapter to allow a RJ45 ethernet cable to be plugged into the wii's rear.

I suppose you've got one of these already?

There are few of these on Amazon like here:

That isn't a problem. Nintendo sells an adapter for that, which I had assumed he had already purchased since he didn't mention that as a problem. I've also heard some third party USB dongles will work, but only certain ones. Here's a link to the adapter on the Nintendo Online Store.

There is also a small list of Wii-compatible chipsets in this thread:
