It also sort of becomes a trade mark to a preconceived identity of that Pokemon, if not just part of the joke.

Candygram, my infamous garchomp, is a direct reference to a Saturday Night Live skit (the landshark)...

i used to name the abra family "Psycho"
I also saw this one guy name his infernape "KngFuPanda" =p
But other than that, i dont give nicknames. Mostly because i can't think of any cool ones

I rarely nickname my pokes... and usually to identify their specific team I designed, i.e. my Trick room team is all nicknamed in a pattern.

haha i named my chimchar- monkeyface my pikachu-static and i think im gonna change my mewtwo to God haha. I always name my rival Poop it always makes me giggle
