For all we know, it could result in a virus contamination, resulting in a new form of Virus-type, let alone a Electric type is a bit "broad."

Change is good if it ain't bad. I'm pretty damn sure hundreds of new species steps over the numerical line of "too many new things" as is, a new type would only bring good things unless it's just-plain done poorly. Fresh designs, entirely new moves, removing staleness from the metagame, etc.

"We have enough" should never be synonymous with "we don't need any more."
