    is the SSE a platformer or a beat 'em up? i is confused.

    Since the story mode is essentially an addition to the game and isn't the main focus of it, its not a platformer. The main thing you are doing in the game is fighting, so its still a beat em' up, with added platforming.

    story mode is beat em up with platforming elements. there, that's the exact definition of story mode.
