Random (but topical) funfact: Charizard is a surprisingly puny dragon (regarding height). I recall an outbreak of "lolwut y iz charizerd so small in brawl" in the game's early days, despite the fact Charizard is shorter than say, myself. Reckon it's a misconception born from the anime, where the flyin' lizardon is taller than any'a the protagonists... even though they're all short themselves.

By saying that you can't have a smaller Ridley form is the same as saying Shiek shouldn't have been in Brawl because she was not in Twilight Princes. Twilight Shiek was created specificly for Smash Bros and even Melee Sheik was directly created by Sakurai.
There's a very big difference between breaking canon and breaking character designs. Sayin' Ridley should be in Smash 'cause Sheik remained in Brawl is most assuredly not the same. Sheik returned to be a veteran 'cause Sheik was half of Zelda, another returning character... that, and Sheik is little more than a persona assumed using transformation magic. TP Zelda disguising herself as Sheik doesn't actually break canon. Anyways, Ridley is a proper character, not a disguise.

Also, just t' slap that other point for the lulz, Mario doesn't need Fire Flowers t' use fire balls. Superstar Saga.

Also, note that he was still quite tall in Pokémon Origins which is directly based off of the games.

So how would changing Ridley be breaking character design?
Remember that Sheik was the persona of OoT Zelda which is a different Zelda than the TP Zelda. Because TP Zelda got a Sheik transformation that was exclusive to OoT Zelda it is a canon break. But those are just the small examples every Smash Character has a canon break, but technically Smash Bros is just an Otaku playing with his Nintendo figurines in some crossover fanfic, so maybe he could just buy a relatively smaller Ridley trophy.

Anyway, having a smaller Ridley would just be a more noticeable adaptation compared to the rest of the cast. Has anyone noticed the Green Charizard in Smash? Heck even in Brawl Ridley's transfomation to Meta Ridley was out of canon. There was a different storyline behind that.

Also the Mario example is a different canon to main series Mario, but then again Mario doesn't need to make sense because at one moment he could be breathing in space and the next moment he could be made out of paper.

It's not breakin' canon 'cause there's no proof that TP Zelda can't perform some magicks akin to OoT Zelda's transformation magic. Sheik was s'posed to be in TP y'know, but was dropped early on in development. Even models and such of a TP Sheik left behind. Can't say for sure TP Zelda was gonna be TP Sheik, but I reckon that was likely the plan 'fore the plan was scrapped.

T'is where we disagree. I feel like Sakurai would see this as a huge deal (pun not intended), a deal-breaker even, whereas you don't.

... As tall as a Lapras, and taller than a Scyther 'n 10 year old trainer ain't very tall. I reckon Origins Charizard's height is pretty accurate to the Pokedex's height listing.

Impa taught OoT Zelda the way of the Sheikah, I don't think TP Zelda had anyone to teach her.

Size can be worked around. If Sakurai wants Ridley in he will make him fit in Smash Bros.

That's like a full 2 feet more than him. More than enough to reach 6 or even 7 ft.

Aye, we don't know. No proof she would or wouldn't have the magical know-how t' do so.

Ridley is already in Smash, as a boss.

Even if she had the Magical knowhow she still doesn't have the physical skills and training given to here by Impa.

With the loss of cinematic story I don't think boss battles will make a return. It's much more likely for him to be a stage hazard or a playable character or an assist trophy.

Veekun has it. I think there has been size comparisons in some of the games. I remember Wailord and the player which was a black dot.

Very possible, but not for certain. Might return as a proper mode alongside Classic and the like, but with moar depth to it t' make up for the lack of a SSE-like mode.

I don't think it's too out of place if the potential one in Smash could be a different Ridley form or normal Ridley in an adolescent post larval stage.
I don't think it's likely, but it's not impossible either.

Anyways, since this is a subjective matter, I guess I'm fine with Dirge's opinion that Ridley shouldn't have to be downsized. However, I don't think it rules out the possibility for him being playable, as we aren't sure what Sakurai thinks about it, for one. There was that 2008 quote, which suggests that he was at least once against the idea of a playable Ridley, but unless he said more about it that I'm unaware of, the only reasoning that he gave was that Ridley "might be a little slow". Aside from that, it's unclear what he thinks. While he might hold the same opinion about Other M Ridley, we can't know for sure right now. It's a little odd that we haven't seen him yet, considering that the bottleship stage was revealed a while ago.

Nothing is impossible. 'Sides Ridley attendin' Smash 4 as playable, anyways.

Sakurai doesn't state whether or not sheer size was the only issue with Ridley. Could have been size alongside lanky body structure, could have just been size, idfk. The lankiness could be considered to be part of his reasoning, as he said Ridley would have been a little slow. Slowness in itself isn't necessarily a bad thing (you know what I mean, try to imagine an agile Dedede), but something as skinny as non-Other M Ridley doesn't exactly look...slow.

My argument is that, if I'm right about a resized Other M Ridley looking better than a resized "usual" Ridley, the change in body structure might be enough for Sakurai to consider making him playable. Maybe he agrees with you that a character shouldn't have to be downsized that much, but as stated, he never outright states that he thinks that. Unless you wish to bring another quote from him to my attention. I might look into it when I get back from work.

    edit: bitches look
