Derp. Meant DS.
Recap from tournament last weekend:
Went to a tournament in Richmond, Kentucky to see some old friends and to see if I had gotten any better. Despite not playing for two weeks, I wasn't rusty technical wise, but I let a lot of things that shouldn't happen happen. And my edge guarding was subpar (still a Sheik main)
I opted out of entering Project: M for monetary reasons, but I played a few friendlies. It was alright. However, I can recap my Melee experience.
Round 1: Versus Mook (Falcon/Falco)
This guy wasn't bad at all. Did a lot of good things. But he opened himself up to being grabbed a lot. Beat me first round (fluke on my part) and I beat him on his second. Frustrated, he switched to Falco and counterpicked Pokemon's. It was his demise though, as I Bair-d him for game. Didn't shake my hand, just unplugged his controller and left. (2-1)
Round 2: Versus some other guy (Falcon/Ganon)
Just a worse version of the other guy. Let me grab him for days. Got salty and switched to Ganon. So I grabbed him more. Not much to say here. (2-0)
Round 3: Versus Amida (Jigglypuff/Kirby)
Amida is the local Puff player who knows what he's doing. I have no idea how to play Puff, and got bodied for it. He switched to Kirby and I didn't feel like playing too seriously (rest up my nerves a bit) and he beat me there. (0-2)
After Pools: 2nd in Pool and 2-1
Round 1: Versus Yosh (Falcon)
Played enough Falcons yet? Lol. This guy wasn't as good as Mook, but was close. I didn't grab him as much but worked on combing with up tilt. (2-0)
Round 2: Versus LuigigoShard (Luigi)
This guy is one of the better Louisville players, and probably one of the best Luigis in the Midwest (not much of a statement though ). I had no idea what I was doing against Weegee and he had more than plenty Sheik practice. (0-2) Off to losers.
Round 3: Versus Overtone (Puff)
Not a very solid Puff player. One of those panic resters. Didn't take much thought to beat him, so I don't remember the match well. (2-0)
Round 4: Versus KellyK (Sheik)
Ah, the beloved Sheik ditto. I was all for not Chain Grabbing, but he was doing them in Friendlies against me earlier, so I was just gonna go with it. He did a lot of CC Down Smash, and I didn't adapt well. We went to Yoshi's game 1 (my mistake) and then Game 2 I took him to Dream Land. I was losing, but got the Chain Grab from 20%-Death, so I ended up winning it.
Game 3 was a tight one. We went to Pokemon and I was up quite a bit. I just took his 2nd stock and I had 3 with 50%. Got a little over confident and paid for it. He did a quick grab into grab into grab. Got out of it, but he managed to control me until he took the stock. Tied at 0%. I was winning the percentage battle (he was in Fair kill % while I was about 20% or so out of it) but Pokemon did a transformation into the rock one and he got a lucky up air and KO'd me off the top. Kind of a bummer. I ended up losing while he had about 60% and 1 stock, but I feel I was overall a better player. 1-2
Overall I went 4-3, which is a little under what I wanted, but I'm still okay with where I placed. I should beat KellyK next time we play and then hopefully I'll get even higher. Fun experience overall though.
Am I a bad person for suckering a casual into a $300 money match?
