I would suggest getting a GC but if you are not used to it then stick with the Classic
But you have to learn how to DACUS with the Classic
I tried showing you how to ledge hop, I would suggest learning it
I don't know too many Sonic Advanced Techs but I would suggest looking for them in YouTube
Understand Sonic's capabilities (which is very important). Learn how far you can fall, how quick your attacks are, how to approach an opponent; learn Sonic.
And learn how to grab the ledge quickly.

With just DI'ing and quick ledge grab you can claim a lot of kills and survive for a long time.

Also Hyphen Smashing is not as effective as the DACUS
