Yeah, I would push for 8, but 6 isn't bad. Otherwise our teams are gonna be stacked...

    [quote-Bliss]I completely disagree.

First off the policy is fine for steroid abuse, they just have to make there are no more slip ups. Current policy is as follows: First positive test resulted in a suspension of 10 games, a second positive test resulted in a suspension of 30 games, the third positive test resulted in a suspension of 60 games, the fourth positive test resulted in a suspension of one full year, and a fifth positive test resulted in a penalty at the commissioner’s discretion. Fine as is. You cant make the first suspension 50 games cuz they are constantly adding new 'drugs' to the list.
And by you saying all it does is make you heal faster is a load of bullshit. Yea for that year you might be feeling better but thats cuz your body is so wired up that it doesnt know up from down. Which leads to long term damage.
And I'll say it again steroids DO NOT improve your baseball skills, which are hand and eye coordination. The steroid ONLY helps IF you make contact with the ball. Granted this is only as a hitter. The steroids do help a pitcher more then the hitter, but again wear and tear comes into effect here.[/quote]

I don't think it is the penalties that is the problem. It's not that guys are getting caught, taking their suspension and then juicing up again. It's that guys aren't getting caught. The guys who sell and create steriods seem to always be one step ahead of the MLB drug testing.

As for steroids messing up your body, I completly agree. The side-effects are dangerous and well documented, but they still aren't keeping guys from using. Right now they know they can get away with it and many players are using. I'd like to know what percentage of baseball is using steroids to the percentage that aren't.

And yes roids don't help a guy add more movement on his curve or give him softer hands or help him make contact, but being bigger and stronger is still a huge advantage in baseball.

I think the regular fans understand the situation, but the causal fans seem to get the impression that every aspect of the sport is tanted because of steroids, which isn't true.

lbu8, i dont think its so much the players getting away with as much as the league itself allowing it. Back when the Sosa, Big Mac battle was goin on the MLB loved it. The money they were raking in kept there mouths shut. It really wasnt until Ken Caminiti had to die (in 2004) before the MLB woke up. And I do believe players are told when they are gonna be tested so they have the time to clean out.

The "official" report date for the Marlins Pitchers and catchers is on Sat. Most of them have been there for at least a week.
