Yeah spring training would be fun to go to, I just don't have money to go to Florida.

How have I not found this thread sooner!?!

I'm a die hard Redsox fan, I have been my whole life. They are lookin' good this year, but I'm concerned with their depth. Not in the next few years or so, but we have some holes in key positions in the future. (i.e. Catcher, 3rd Base)

Joined the yahoo league also, this is gunna be fun :P

Nice, 2 more teams would put us over the top.

BTW, Nick any idea what the bet was between those 3?? I feel bad for Pelf, haha.

In the mean time, here are some updates of Mets camp & what's been going on...

Ben Shpigel of the NY Times on Tim Redding & Jon Niese

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Jon Niese and a man with a goatee and shaved head walked into the Mets’ complex together.

Jay Horwitz, the team’s public relations honcho, greeted Niese and looked at the bald man quizzically.

“Tim Redding,” the bald man said, extending his hand.

Redding and Niese, who are vying for the fifth starter’s job, are represented by the same agent, Tom O’Connell. The two also revealed that they drove 20 hours together to get here and are sharing a house this spring. Nothing like a little friendly competition.

David Lennon of Newsday on J.J. Putz.

Got a good close-up look at J.J. Putz this morning during his bullpen session. Mixed in with a barrage of fastballs, however, was a pitch I couldn't identify at first because it had such a ridiculous spin and break to it.

After Brian Schneider shook his head in disbelief, I asked bullpen catcher Dave Racaniello - squatting next to Schneider - what the pitch was.

    "Splitter," Rac said.

    "Really?" I replied.

Smiling, Rac said, "It's a good one."

Consider Putz a serious upgrade, folks.

Steve Popper of North Jersey Sports Blogs on the whereabouts of Luis Castillo.

So what becomes a little noticeable is who isn't here.

    Luis Castillo? Hello?

It's early, very early - the position players aren't contractually obliged to be here until Feb. 20. But still, if you were Luis Castillo wouldn't you want to be the first player here - a task that fell to David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans, all of whom arrived here February 1.

But Castillo, who has more at stake than any other Mets player in coming back, in getting a do-over, has not appeared yet. That might tell you something about what the Mets are going to get from him - and it might tell you what the Mets could get from Brian Schneider.

Thanks to PH3AR on the Sheva sig!!!

Yesterday Metsblog reported it was a bet he lost. But this morning while watching SNY, they said he crashed his golf kart while playing with Church and Maine. And the 2 guys couldnt stop laughing at Pelf so as a joke so he doesnt hurt himself they made him wear the helmet.

EDIT: they just put the story on metsblog

Yesterday, as seen in this photo, Mike Pelfrey wore a black, chin-strap, military, motorcycle helmet while working out in camp.

According to Bart Hubbuch in the New York Post, “Pelfrey dubbed it his ‘crash helmet,’ a joke stemming from the day before, when he somehow managed to flip over his cart during an afternoon round of golf with fellow starter John Maine, C Brian Schneider and OF Ryan Church.’
