Character Icons at Beginning

Does it matter what you choose? Ex if you beat the game with a yoshi icon will you be able to use him or something liek that for the other icons?

Nothing, haha, but if you remember in Mario Power Tennis for Gamecube if you beat it with Yoshi he turned into like a different color Yoshi or like his special (rolling around in an egg) was a black egg or something like that. It wasn't the same for other characters because i tried beating it with everyone else thinking their special would change.
