ROT3K4 the memories!

I seen this was available for DL and picked it up as my first VC game. I can remember playing this back in the day on my SNES. Still a great game, but I can't figure out the controls for dueling. Does anyone know how to do it? right now I just smash the B button down, but I think there is more to it. I did a quick search on the web and found lots of information but every time it never mentions how to duel. Any help would be much appreciated.
