Zelda: Majora mask Save problems

I have downloaded Majora's mask from the virtual console. However, surprisingly I have found I am unable to save the game. When I press start to go into the menu screens, the option to save is not there. Has anyone else exeprienced this problem and found a solution?

I can help with this one I have the same game. Okay to save your in this you need to smack, yes this will sound funny, smack a stone owl with your sword. Then he'll save your game and then he forces you out of the game (It is the only way to save, he always forces you out even when you want to continue). The first one is at the left of the "Clock Tower" when facing the tower. He'll be right there and when you see him, his wings will actual be folded onto each other. So smack him and he'll save you game.

There are no errors and Nintendo doesn't give out demos of any of it's games. I wish they did though.
