Last I checked, the flexibility of a food is not the only factor in regards to what makes it great.

Bread is fantastic in that, what doesn't it work with? But alone, rarely can it be called fantastic. Likewise, the same is true with toast.

Bacon is not as easily blended with other dishes, but is delicious in it's own right. Both are delicious because of their very different strong points, no?
