Have you noticed how all those rumours of a Wii 2 that were swirling around a few months back seem to have faded away recently? That’s probably because, according to Kotaku, there isn’t going to be one any time soon, and you can forget all about a Wii 2 until the end of next year at least, as Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has said not to expect a Wii 2 for a long, long time. Unless someone wants to go out and buy up a few million Wiis, that is, as according to Reggie, Nintendo wants to sell truckloads of the current version of the console before unleashing a new Wii on the market.
“As we sit here today we’re saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell,” Fils-Aime told Kotaku. “After we’ve reach an installed base of 45 million here in the US, we can have a conversation about the next generation.”And with the news earlier this week that the Wii has sold around 30 million units in the US so far, that’s around 15 million Wiis that Reggie has in his garage that he’s got to get rid of before we get Wii 2.
