THQ announced today that Rio, the Wii game inspired by Fox’s new 3D animated movie, is in stores now in the UK, for an SRP of £29.99. The game translates the film’s scope and grandeur into a series of fast-paced mini-games. Here’s Martin Good, THQ’s executive vice president of Kids, Family and Casual Games, talking about the game.

“Riois such a fun movie that we wanted to bring a creative, imaginative approach to making a movie-based game, one that can be enjoyed by players of every age and skill level. The colours, the music and great humour of RIO – THE MOVIE inspired us to create a really unique game experience.”
In the game, up to four players can compete with each other in 40 mini-games as one of the six playable characters from the film: Blu, Jewel, Pedro, Nico, Raphael, and Eva. Players get to compete in five unique modes as they journey through Rio to win first place at the Carnival ceremony. Rio also features quick “jump in, jump out” gameplay, enabling players to enter and exit a game as they please. Here’s Gary Rosenfeld, senior vice president, Global New Media, Fox Consumer Products, talking about the game from the movie maker’s perspective:

“We know that once audiences see*RIO – THE MOVIEthey’re going to want to extend the adventure and fun outside of the movie theatre, and this game is the kind of exciting entertainment experience that is sure to deliver.”
