California based Christian group, The Porn Talk is preparing an attack on the Nintendo Wii and other consoles labelling them 'Portals to Porno'.
In a leaked press release the group claim that, "Parents think the computer is the only way for their kids to get porn on the internet. Unfortunately, they are dead wrong," says Mike Foster, founder of ThePornTalk.com. "Gaming devices like the Wii and the PSP aren't just for fun games anymore. You're able to surf the net, chat with friends, email, and view porn because of its internet access. Kids know this but parents don't!"
This news comes via a leaked press release to gaming website Kotaku.com, the full statement can be read below:

Like many new gaming technologies, the Wii's wireless internet capabilities make it a portal to porno. "Parents think the computer is the only way for their kids to get porn on the internet. Unfortunately, they are dead wrong," says Mike Foster, founder of ThePornTalk.com. "Gaming devices like the Wii and the PSP aren't just for fun games anymore. You're able to surf the net, chat with friends, email, and view porn because of its internet access. Kids know this but parents don't!"
Wireless internet (Wi-Fi) technology allows electronic devices like Nintendo's Wii to wirelessly connect to the internet. Airports, Starbucks, schools, and even entire cities give people the opportunity to log on the internet with a Wi-Fi device like the Wii or even Sony's PSP. "This makes it very difficult to monitor as a parent. You can easily put safeguards in your house but it's impossible to monitor in a Wi-Fi world," says Foster. "Even though the Nintendo Wii has parental controls, parents don't see a need for them because they are unaware of the porn capabilities."
The Nintendo Wii has become the best-selling video game console in the United States, outselling Microsoft and Sony competitors in the month of January, 2007. Because of its success many websites have taken advantage of its online capability. Several companies have changed the look and functionality of their web sites to accommodate the Wii. The porn industry is also implementing these changes to their sites. Porn websites are taking the look of the Wii's home page and menus and modeling their own sites after them. Porn sites are even converting their video clips so that they can run on the Wii.
So the solution lies in parents getting the facts and then talking to their children about expectations for online activity. Foster believes that, "Whether it is the home computer or these new gaming consoles, porn is easily accessible. The Wii is an amazing console and tons of fun but parents need good info on how to keep kids safe."

I'm going to be totally honest, and say I have tried to get porn on my wii (mainly because my tv is bigger and better than my monitor) however I found that the wii opera browser, isn't exactly amazing at playing videos, I imagine that more people watch xxxdvds than try it on the wii, I think it is just another one of those "VIDEO GAMES ARE BAD LOL, AS WE AS REPONSIBLE PARENTS [WHO BOUGHT THESE PRODUCTS FOR OUR KIDS, GRAND THEFT AUTO? SURE] NEED TO STOP PEOPLE USING FUN THINGS"
Also, if a child gets porn on their wii, who is supervising them? Surely some responsibility lies on the parent.

I like my Porno. Nothing wrong with it tbh. Adults use it to help them when having sex [Some do] so whats wrong with it. And it has Parental Controls..... Though thats just for Games isn't it? Oh well!
I've never looked at porn on the Wii. I have my PC..... but I imagine some people will use their Wii

exactly it does fall on the supervision of the parent... But these damn christian groups have nothing else better to complain about so they have to go and ruin our fun, I can actually see congress later on getting involved like they did with GTA and try to get the wii to have new parental controls and inform the public 
that is very much a no no lol
Plus if they tell the public they guys here at work will find out and stop watchin porn dvds and try using the wii on the flat screen =\ and thats gonna take out from my zelda time...

I thought you guys knew- in the US no responsibility lies with the parents. It lies in everyone so no one can be truly happy because all we can think about is "what if some kid- although I don't have one of my own, and none of my friends do either, well except for Casey but I only see him once a year- wanders into my house and starts looking a porn on my Wii? How horrible would that be. God I can't be a responsible adult and own this. I guess I'll just have to sell my Wii to some kid with weak morals for a tiddy profit."

I'll be honest the first thing my bf asked when i got my wii was "can i look at porn on this thing?" so i we looked it was really poor due to the video playing qualities of the wii at the moment.
I think people should be more concerened that children can now get mobile phones with memory slots that enable them to bluetooth porn to each other.
If parents are that worried about kids getting porn on the wii they should supervise them more when playing the wii. just becausde this ruddy christian group has a knack for pointing out the obvious to people theres now goin to be the proverbial mountain out of a mole hill.
if you dont want kids to watch porn then surpervise them when using a pc or anyother device that can acess the net but now with technology almost anything can provide porn! Kids are gonna see it someday so parents should get used to it.

I am little surprised this came out of CALI, but I guess you can have right-wing Christian hard-core born again fundamentalist everywhere. These are the same type of people who demand their children be home school just so that they can shelter their children from thinking outside of the "Christian ways" and not see the "real" world. This is a huge problem, especially if the child then goes onto college and has to live with people who are not of the same perspective. I have seen this happen more than once at my school already. -- the result is usually not good.
As for the Wii, it actually might only increase sales....look what groups like this did for Abercrombie & Fitch when they complained about their ad's....A&F clothing sales went through the roof.

The Wii doesn't really offer access to great porn. You can look at images and risque YouTube-esque (flash, swf) videos. Maybe if you have a foot fetish, it's good for you. But if you're into hardcore stuff, it's not like you can just instantly access avi and wmv files.
If anything, Nintendo could include a 'Cyber-Nanny' type thing, or just block the internet channel from being downloaded if a parent so chooses.

If they block any sites I'll be pissed, especially if you pay 500 Wii points for a browser that has sites blocked how gay would that be. If anything its a good thing now when your Teens look at porn they dont risk getting a Virus on the Computer.

if they're worried, why not just block sites via the router? Most routers these days are able to block domains and keywords. So you don't really need a site blocker installed anymore. Plus the router is pass protected and they can't access it... unless of course the kid is the one who set up all the computer stuff.
