Definitely a good idea to save up atleast $1000. Moving into a new apartment can cost quite a bit. Check into apartment specials first, some of them in the US have like $99 move in specials. Also, I don't know what the legal age of majority is in Canada but you will most likely have to have that met to sign a lease.
oh cool so you got your future nailed down
..i just go with the flow
This is where you go wrong. You should move out when you have a steady job and know even IF you get fired you will have enough money to live on your own for another year or so or able to find a equal or better job. Theres a chance *go d forbid* that something may happen to your parents house that you cannot move back. Just think it through. Wait another year maybe so your legal anyway. I wish the best of luck to you. But those are my 2 cents
idn but my brothers have a house too, so if something god forbid happens to my paren'ts house i can jsut live there
plus im' not dumb enough to get fired...they just voluntarilly gave me a raise too, so unless i do something really hardcore dumb, they won't fire me..

You dont seem so sure about your future. This is why I dont encourage you to go on your own. You'll know when the time is right. Yeah your parents are annoying but hey, free food. No bills(except cellular). Milk it for another few years. Theres no race. I am not trying to offend you or put you down or even think of you as childish but even from this thread and what your saying makes me feel you are not ready yet. I hope you put this into consideration
i'm doing it for the living experience mostly, i don't plan on living there for a long time(4 years tops) so when i'm actually serious about moving out into a a better apartment/house i know what's up ahead
true like you said i may not be ready, but i'm doing this so i can be ready in the future

Thats a good way to look at it. But you gotta allways think about the worst scenario. Like you said "Ill just join a pyramid scam" See this isnt a great plan because people who do pyramid schemes are usually bums and drug addicts (No offence to your brother and friend) But that isnt a great way to make money if you somehow lost your job. I suggest looking around for better jobs, maybe learn a trade. Experience life on your own if you want, It might make you stronger or you may beable to hold your own. Only one way to find out.
meh after working at mongolian grill, i'll probably move my way to supervisor soon, than back of house manager
and my friend/brother both have other jobs as well
bt my friend(who is also a co-worker,) has that as his main job...
the worst scenario is that i run out of cash, have to ditch my co-worker and appartment
i'd probably convince my parents to let my co-worker move in because he can't live with his parents
AND like i said i probably wouldn't get fired from that job, and the restaurant makes a lot of money so it's not like it's gonna get shut down or anything
and i'm going to a factory tomororw about getting another job paying 13 bucks an hour(canadian) so that's decent, i might make that my main job
edit: and the job at the factory, if i get enough skill to run two machnies, than i'll get 20 bucks an hour

I don't have any good advice for you, what I would have said is taken, and I am only in my third year of high school so I don't need to worry about that yet.
But good luck man!

Ah yes, the I am 17 and ready to take on the world.
Let's look at expenses:
Rent
Electric (much higher in the summer if you have AC)
Gas (much, much higher in the winter with heat)
Water (pretty cheap)
Phone (cell and/or land line)
Food (grocery shopping adds up more quickly than you realize. I spend about $200/month for just me)
Clothes
Renter's insurance would be wise. Apartments are pretty easy to break into.
Car insurance will go up, since you now lose any discount by being with your parents.
I can only imagine the dump you can get for $450 Canadian. Out here, the dumps are $800/month and the US dollar is still worth more than the Canadian dollar.
For those of you in the US: does your super-job-with-awesome-pay have health insurance? Guess what? If you move out of your parent's home, you are no longer covered by their health insurance in most cases. I certainly hope you don't get hurt or sick w/o it. I assume not much changes for those of you in Canada and England.
Saving up $1000 first is literally nothing. A guy I knew from high school is currently renting a spare bedroom from me. I charge him $500/month with utilities included. He has a few grand in the bank and thinks he is rich. In the real world, when you are covering all of your own expenses, money goes quickly.
To the OP: Your pay does not seem to me to be enough to move out, even if you are splitting the apartment. Sit down and actually do the math on a budget. Figure in food, etc. You may think that you can live on the cheap stuff for a while, but you will get sick of it. Getting a discount at work still means that you are spending probably $3 a meal? Assuming you get a meal a day, you are looking at $90 gone already.
The spot where you said you would just ditch the apartment and your roommate if needed concerns me as well. It tells me that you are not quite responsible enough for this yet. You can't just ditch a lease. If you go into something, you have to make sure it will work and not have the attitude that you can just bail if it fails.

if you lived in NY youd be screwed! 1000$ a month and that does NOT cover utility bills to live in NYC/long island. its much cheaper once you leave the city towards westchester county and upstate NY
