I think i'll love my username forever, but then again you guys did too....
It think mine will stick for quite a while, its simple and easy to remember. However there are a lot of websites where the nickname is already take, that can be annoying.
It is fun to present knowledge in a way that it seems as if you're the smarter, though. :P
Like how you ask a 12 year old some question you know they have no chance at answering, but you do so anyway just to show how much wiser/smarter you are.
How would you improve the public education system?

Do you think any movie director will ever live up to and/or surpass the names Steven Spielberg or George Lucas? Who would you consider this generation's Spielberg or Lucas?
Actually had a great discussion on this last night.
I reckon someone better might come along eventually. Heck, they're not the only two "giants" of directing- what about Stanley Kubrick or Akira Kurosawa? Someone is bound to come along and have an equally illustrious career eventually.
By the way, I don't consider Lucas to be a very good director. And before you shout at me, remember that he is responsible for Ewoks, Jar-Jar Binks, Midi-Chlorians, etc.

Don't let people homeschool their kids. Yuck. =P
Private school vouchers would be nice. Raise public school standards, have segregated classes by GPA.
And stop letting inner-city kids speak ebonics.

QUENTIN TARANTINO.
Granted, he's only like twenty years younger than Steven, but his movies are AMAZING.
I think there is another skill of directing - making the best of what you have. Michael Caton-Jones had the difficult task of reflecting the Rwandan genocide in a very low-budget film. He did it fantastically, you wouldn't have guessed how cheap it was to make.

Hey, the cool kids are back to help me get this thread back on track. 'Bout time, dammit.
Napalm, I used Spielberg and Lucas as two quick examples of living, last generation directors who have made it huge. The others you gave were both old/dead, and the question is asking if there are any younger directors who are out there making a name for themselves.

That's basically how the discussion I had with my sister's boyfriend ended. The future is a sad place for filming due to all that's being pumped out now are chick flicks and super-ultra-mega-firey-ACKSHUNN FILMZ.

Looking at my post, I didn't really make my point clear. What I meant to say was, back in the early 20th century, you had legendary directors like Hitchcock, and all, and in the second half of the century, other directors like Spielberg and Kubrick came along and had equally, if not better, brilliant careers in directing. If they can do that, I don't see why no one else can come along and do even better.

I guess by logical reasoning there would be more of these film giants, I just don't see it happening based on the films coming out right now, and those which are set to release in the future.
Seems sort of bleak.

And Lucas knows this, but he doesn't care, he's rich as ****!

I would have said M. Night Shymalan a few years back, but his most recent have been retarded.
Good posts!
Spielberg has done some amazing work - even with his disposable films, but Lucas I wouldn't even put in the same sport. With the exception of the original Star Wars and TESB, all the sequels are anything from weak (ROTJ) to downright craptacular (PM...Ugh...).
I really did think M. Night might be on the road to be the next Spielberg - his earlier work has the same tone, cinematography, etc., as Steve's earlier stuff, but apparently one too many people suggested the parallels, and he quickly assumed his poop didn't stink. I thought The Happening might be a return to form, but after reading the screenplay, and seeing the previews, yikes, this has the potential to be his worst yet.
Agreed on some of the amazing directors of the past too: especially Kurasawa and Kubrick.
