That's an interesting topic in itself. I've always wondered if over time you could change your mindset. Not on specific things, but on how you percieve everything.
I think a lot of the time when people depend on other people more and more (advice etc) then they are less self sufficient in that they don't believe that they themself can deal with a problem and so rely on other people.
Of course helping other people is not wrong, but i think a line should be drawn where you must realise that helping your friend is good, but them depending on your help would be a problem in itself.

i will apoligise as i did not feel my previous posts were that judgemental when making them, i can only theorise from experience of self harm and the people that do it, although i am not sure where the line is drawn between theory and judgment.
I actually wasn't talking about that. Certain people just have certain mindsets by nature. Imagine this: It's your birthday in one week.
(Presumed) Optimist's thought process: I wonder what presents I'll get. I'm excited.
(Example) Pessimist's thought process: I wonder what presents I'll get. What if two people get me the same present? That would be really awkward. I don't even know what I would say. *Practices situation* That's still really awkward. What if someone gets me something I don't even want? I always hate it when that happens. *Walks to mirror and practices fake smiles* I don't know if they'll buy that. That was really cheesy. Ugh, and Aunt Lue is probably going to forget my birthday again and give me my present at Christmas. That's ALWAYS awkward. What am I even supposed to say? ...
As a pessimist, I just think that it stops me from enjoying things on a daily basis. I don't necessarily dislike it because I think it's important to worry about certain things, but it can definitely restrain you from being in a good mood.
being an optimist isnt about having high expectations. its about beleive the best in any situation.
im an optimist. ill give you an example of the difference. as an optimist im happy to leave my house unlocked while im at home. i know that nothing is going to happen.
i went and saw speed racer last night cos i had free tickets. i thought it was going to be crap but figured it would be good to have a night out. turned out that the film was great. a pessimist would have said "no point in going cos the film is going to be crap"
my wife on the other hand, has to have it locked. she thinks that if its unlockedthen someone is going to come in.
thats the difference between optimism and pesimism.

Believing that the best possible situation will happen, in my opinion, is the loftiest expectation you can have.

That simply depends on where you live, not so much if your optimistic or pessimistic.

Unless they're a fan of the show, which I am. When I went to see it I thought it would be "OK", and like you said, it turned out great. One of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time. However, had I hyped it up, I don't think I would have gotten as much out of it as I did.
Pessimism isn't all about doom and gloom, it helps you stay down to earth. Preparing for the worst is all.

AHAHAHAHAHAH asking her about politics...that made my day. And I've been reading C&H for 8 hours.
I've got a question. If your child was "gifted" or whatever, and school was way too easy for him and the school said you could let him skip a grade, would you do it?
I thought the answer was obvious, but I guess not. D:

Yes, but only if it was at a very early grade, like kindergarten or first and only if their age wouldn't make them an outlier.
