I kinda went in on Thursday hyped up for the movie. Incredibly hyped. I loved it. I want to see it again, many more times even.

EDIT @ Celeste:

It's set in the made up city, Gotham. Gotham has heaps of crime, and Batman is there to stop criminals, as the police are normally pretty crap, and have been corrupt. However- Gotham attracts various criminal masterminds, such as "Scarecrow" (who was in the movie Batman Begins) and now Joker.

i did't even read the wiki article till just now, so i'll give you a bit of summary then

this guy's parents were uber rich and they live in this city with bad crime and then his parents get murdered and he gets ascared of bats so when he grows up he becomes a vigilante and fights crime by night but is a rich guy by day and he has a bunch of uber cool weapons but there is still a conflict in the storyline cuz he can't whoop ass all the time but there's always a resolution *gasping breath*

You don't have to be a Batman expert to enjoy the movie, though. What I said was basically just the basics you need to understand what's going on. Obviously watching Batman Begins would be good too, but you don't need to I don't think. The best part about the movie is the Joker, and he's only introduced in The Dark Knight anyway, so you're not missing out on anything there.

umm, No..Joker was first introduced in the very first Batman, with Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker

I'm talking from the viewpoint of the movie. Of course the villain already exists, but in the movie he's introduced as a new character.

but batman begins give you the whole exposition of batman, aka the stuff celeste doesn't really know about. it was a good movie anyways, so i would suggest seeing it before dark knight.

I might have been a bit vague... it's his first appearance in the new Batman series; you don't need to have seen/read anything to understand him, as he's introduced for the first time in this movie.
