Are you sure, because the processor on the computer is pretty bad. It's a pentium 4 with a speed of 1.70 GHz. Its pretty much crap. I just wanted to know if adding RAM would make a difference even with that processor.

If that was directed to me, I'm trying to make it go faster. Just even a little faster. The computer in general is crap, but I'm trying to modify it to make it decent or even good.

It should make it go faster depending on how much more RAM you are putting on there. If your just putting a 128MB stick than it won't be much of a difference though if you put a gig or more, you'll notice it.

Check it for viruses as well. Unless you're doing heavy gaming, or running a hundred applications at once, I don't see why you shouldn't at least be somewhat faster.

I cant open one thing on that computer without it lagging a bit. I used to have windows 2000 on it and I upgraded it to xp, thats basically when it started to have problems. I dont want to downgrade it to 2000. The computer is just slow. I check for viruses and I had 2 trojan horses. I also checked for spyware, malware and adware and I had a shit load. I got rid of them but its still pretty slow.

Yes, it will make a difference when going from 256 to 1 gig.
Also, you should use Disk Cleanup to clear all the cache and such and you should also check on what programs are running on startup. The more programs, the more slower it will become.
For example, back then I had about 10 applications that opened on startup, though because I took most of the stuff I don't need at startup off, it now loads and runs much faster.
You may also want to check what programs you do not need and uninstall them.
If you need any help with doing any of this, just PM me and I'll be glad to help even further.
Edit: You may also want to change your Windows' appearance to classic and just put the wallpaper as a plain color. It will help you out somewhat. Also, take some icons off your desktop that you don't need as well.

But then again, don't put too much stock in RAM. You need a balanced system, RAM isn't going to cure a shit-old computer.

Silk Road is a good free one. Ultima Online is also free if you play on free servers. That one is a little older, my avatar is from Ultima Online.
EDIT: Both of these are free FREE, meaning you don't have to buy the games. Nor do you have to pay to play at all.

Guild Wars and RuneScape would be the best free-to-play ones, but there are ways to play pay-to-play ones online. There are plenty of private servers out there for WoW and EverQuest II.
