I've got discrimnated for being polish, almost kicked the guys' ass. Iwas in grade 5 =/, but if he ever does make fun of my polish heritage again he's not going to be able to see out of his left eye for a while.

I think that question is vague and meaningless, and there's no reason to think that people have to have a meaning or purpose behind their existence. However, if life does have a meaning, I think it's probably different for everyone and something you have to work out for yourself.

A question for our religious members: Do you think it is fair for a person to be punished in Hell for all eternity, when it is impossible for anyone to commit an infinite amount of sin (i.e. the punishment is vastly disproportionate to the crime)?

A very good question.
In my mind, there are numerous numerous opportunities to be good. My beliefs teach me that sins are punished to a far less degree than good is rewarded. Good actions are rewarded 1000 times over. In this sense you have to do a lot more bad than good to deserve an eternity in hell.
In addition, intention is a huge part of action. Doing the wrong thing purposefully knowing it is wrong in my opinion deserves some punishment. Sinning unaware of the wrong you are doing can't be helped at times.
Don't forget forgiveness and mercy. Repentence is very powerful and important to practice if you are religious.
In answer to your question, whether it is fair or not isn't really for me to decide. Faith is believing that God knows best. What I do see is that it isn't overly hard to avoid an eternity in hell. People talk about sins like they are damning, I agree there are some which are. But for the most part its a cumulative question of how much good and how much bad have you done. With good being multiplied in the eyes of God and bad easily repented if you are sincere in asking forgiveness.
Punishment isn't generally equal to the sin though or it wouldn't be a deterrent from sinning. Murder can put you in jail for life when your sin took a matter of minutes to accomplish. Steal something and would you say the jailtime is appropriate? The judge decides ultimately, and his word is more or less final.

QFT.
I really enjoy your posts in this thread.

The meaning of life? I always hated that question.
I think that people get too caught up in trying to 'win' life that they forget about truly important things. By spreading knowledge and wisdom, you can live on through other people. If I had to give you a stern answer, I'd say that your purpose in life is to improve others' lives.
