Yeah I meant the Iraq war.
two different opinions, that's always good to see, I'd have to say I'm not against war, but I'm not totally for it, if you know what I mean. I don't understand these anti war people who want to extract the troops out of Iraq, I mean if they do that, the terrorists could build up their forces, and just attack America and the UK and the rest of Europe, isn't that true?
Sorry if that's not a valid argument, I'm not so good on war discussion.

^To my knowledge, we aren't there to look for terrorists, we're there to promote a democratic system of government.
I supported the Korean and Vietnam wars because we didn't know if the domino effect would hold true or not and, in a nutshell, the whole world was at stake. This war? Nobody's going to care what system of government Iraq decides to use. Its not going to change anything. Screw them, pull everybody out.

Yay, a pacifist! I do like your way of thinking. Too bad we don't live in an ideal world.
But really, I don't have much knowledge on any wars, in fact. But I know they're for damn good reasons, so yeah, I think that good will come out of it in the end. Are there really any other alternatives?
I don't think anyone wants war, but it just happens, and we're going to deal with it in the best way as possible. That being support from other countries, yeah, okay.

Agreed. Terrorists are an inevitable thing in the world.

Yeah that's what I meant, how DT suggested it.
I'd love to deliver a long concise answer to this question, but I honestly don't know. Both of my majors are very impractical; Political science and music. I'd love to be a political strategist or something, but how impossible would that be? I'd also love to be a professional musician in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, but again, kind of unrealistic. I basically just chose my majors because I'm pretty awesome in both subjects and I fail at anything like maths or sciences, which actually lead to jobs xD. I never really looked into the future. I bet I'll end up doing something completely random that has nothing to do with what I went to school for.
About the war question, 500% anti-war. I'm going to leave it at that. There has been enough debate today.

The things Bush keeps saying about there being weapons of mass destruction in Iraq is a load of bull. There is no evidence to support that. I'm not trying to be offensive to USA or anything, but remember the time when the US gave Iraq weapons in order to get oil.

That is what Bush wants you to think. It's true in a way, but he has said weapons of mass destruction so many times it has lost its meaning.

I agree, but why is NATO in Afghanistan. They say they want to get peace for the citizens there. Why kill them then? Why Afghanistan. Why not Darfur. The united nations said that they wouldn't allow another geniside to take place in the world. WTH is happening in Darfur then?
At what point does a war end? After you killed off the enemy? or once you killed enough for the enemy to give up? It's pointless I tell you. But I agree that the world we live in is not ideal and it can't be helped.

Neither Iraq nor Afghanistan has nuclear weaponry. Its not like they're hiding it in somebody's basement, they would have to have huge nuclear silo's that we would have found within a week of being there. We've got no business being there whatsoever.

Exactly! . I know we are on the same side here, but NATO is not in Afghanistan because of destructive weapons, they are trying to kill off the taliban and mainly Bin laden.

Sorry, I wasn't directly speaking of Nato, I was speaking more in terms of the US. We don't tend to get much news as to what other countries are doing with the conflict. In fact, for a few years I thought that we were the only ones there. Kind of sad, really.

Well USA is part of NATO. If I'm not mistaken USA was the first member of NATO and Canada was the second. NATO is working to one goal. So basically it doesn't matter what country you are from as long as you are in NATO you will be doing the same thing as the other countries. Well at the start of the Iraq war, you guys were the only ones there, then you asked Canada for help, and somehow Britain came into the war and the rest of NATO followed.

New question: Is universal health care a good thing?
I saw Sicko a while back and it seemed to be a good thing yet America doesn't like it for some reason.

If it were to be publicly funded, I can see obvious reasons why America wouldn't like it. We as a country are generally self centered and would not want to fund the health care for those who do not work or contribute to the funding of such a program.
If it were funded via government, I can see people being more open to it, but then again our country is in so much debt already... I don't think it would be the people objecting to it.
I'm up in the air on how I feel about it, those are just a couple reasons I think America isn't interested in universal health care.

Universal Health Care? So not private?
It works pretty well here in Canada, only problem (and it is slowly getting fixed) is that we don't have enough doctors. =(

Its kind of difficult for me to have an opinion, seeing as I've only lived without it.
I once thought it was a good thing until my mom shined some light on the subject for me. She said that (because its free, and everybody takes the advantage of using it) offices are ridiculously busy. That you can't just go and get a checkup if you think you've got something bad, you've got to wait. I don't know if any of this is true or not...

It kinda goes both ways. If you live in a populated country like USA, it's a good thing, but in a country like Canada, its really really bad. In Canada(well atleast toronto) people go to the emergency room for the stupidist reasons and its always first come first serve. It really sucks. If you have a real emergency, in Canada you have to wait 6 hours to get treatment at the emergency room. Why, because its all free and people just think that they can do anything. Don't get me wrong, it great to have it, but it needs to be more strict.

we have the same problem in the US, but that's because most people who don't keep private insurance rely on medicare, which pretty much pays only for ER visits, therefore the freeloaders go there for every bump and bruise (and then they go and sue whoever bumped them)

To the church, and perhaps to some homeless people, but no, not a significant amount.
I'd rather give money to someone I know that is going through a hardship than to a group of strangers.
